One common question I’ve been getting is: “Why are you studying hypnotherapy?
Here’s an extended answer to that question:
In 2024, my friend Shiela recommended I read Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss.
It just blew me away.
I had never experienced anything like this.
Here was this book about Dr. Weiss (a practical psychiatrist who worked at the University of Miami) and a patient of his named Catherine (a Catholic woman who was dealing with a variety of psychological issues).
At first, he tried talk therapy with her. Then he prescribed her anti-anxiety medication. Neither of those things worked. Eventually, he took her into a deep state of relaxation and she ended up accidentally getting hypnotized. She then experienced lives before her body as Catherine where she dealt with a corresponding issue (for example: she was scared of water, and in one past life, she recalled drowning). This ended up healing her symptoms. She didn’t remember the trances. Neither of them believed in reincarnation. It was just awe-inspiring to read. I highly recommend it.
After this, I immediately felt that I was supposed to attend one of Dr. Weiss’ workshops. So in June 2025, I went to one of his weekend events. I had an incredibly powerful experience, which led me to dive deeper into his material.
This summer, I did my first past-life regression. Basically how it works is that a hypnotherapist takes you into a trance state. Then they prompt you to recall different aspects of previous lives. Even though I had so many experiences reading about past lives, I had a lot of doubt and skepticism while actually in the session.
In one of these lives, I was a Native American. I cheated on my wife and was excommunicated from the tribe. The image I saw of my body was my head looking down, wearing just a loincloth, and holding a knife. I was ashamed of my behavior, upset at the implications, and lonely for the rest of my life. I kept thinking to myself, “There’s no way this is actually real. I could have just made up anything.”
Then, a couple of weeks later, I got to Sedona, I walked to the gym the first day. And on my way there, outside the gym, I saw this statue below:

My jaw dropped and said to myself.. “Okay. Maybe there was more to that than I initially thought.”
During this time, my friend Vanessa introduced me to the book You Were Born To Be Together Again by Dick Sutphen. It was published in 1976 and sold over 1 million copies. I devoured the book, and then I started to get fascinated by the life of the author. He was an ad guy in Phoenix. Then one of his friends convinced him to get a past-life regression. That regression was so profound that metaphysics became his new obsession. He eventually moved and worked from Sedona.
When I was in Sedona, I became so fascinated with this guy that I watched his home movies posted on YouTube and felt his presence on walks. It was a connection so deep that it made me tear up.
And then I started to ask myself… why am I so fascinated by this man? Why am I so connected to this man?
It hit me like a bolt of lightning: hypnotherapy was part of my path, too.
So that’s when I remembered that my friend, Grace Smith, was someone I interviewed twice on the podcast. And her energy is phenomenal. So I looked her up and realized, she hosts an online school for hypnotherapy. And having been in it for the past three months, it’s just as good as her energy. This particular school is not focused on past life regressions, but it’s an area that I plan to dive into in the future.
So in August, I began to study hypnotherapy, and as I dove into it further, I became more and more excited about the possibilities. For the first time in a long time, I actually enjoyed school.
And every day, I felt more and more that this was my path.
Then this past week, I actually conducted five different sessions with people as a hypnotherapist-in-training. And it was amazing! I learned so much. More on that another time.
My plan is to be fully certified by mid-January 2026.
I also plan on getting a past-life regression certification as well.
