Experiment: Meditate 60 Minutes for 60 Days, Part II

December 30, 2020 by Danny Miranda

History with meditation: I started meditating in September 2019 (normally 20-30 minutes in the morning). Then, I did the 60 minute for 60 day challenge in May 2020. This was life-changing (full log here). I continued to meditate for 60 minutes until December. Then I started doing 20-30 minute sessions inconsistently. So, in order to get back on the horse, I decided

Method: Meditate for 60 minutes straight every day for the next 60 days. No phone. No apps. Let thoughts run through you. All sessions are done after waking up (unless otherwise noted). Using this timer (not an affiliate link).

Day 1 (12/28) – Went surprisingly better than I expected. Good session filled with periods of deep nothingness.

Day 2 (12/29) – Good to get back into the flow of the practice.

Day 3 (12/30) – Jumpy session. Mind was going all over the place, particularly at the end. Still, we’ve come a huge way since my third ever 60 minute session.

Day 4 (12/31) – This felt like an incredibly long session. The one hour was more like 75 minutes. It’s a sign my mind is moving too fast. One key insight: Important to think less about the enormity of the challenge and just take the first step.

Day 5 (1/1) – The feeling of no thought is weightlessness.

Day 6 (1/2) – We spend all day thinking about ourselves. These 60 minute sessions are a way to return to No Mind/Nothingness where you’re not thinking of anything or anyone.

Day 7 (1/3) – Did this session at night. Checked timer with 7 minutes to go.

Day 8 (1/4) – No notes to report.

Day 9 (1/5) – Before this session… agitated and nervous. After this session… peaceful and content.
