It’s Not Happening Fast Enough?

January 13, 2021 by Danny Miranda

“Hey Danny, it’s not happening fast enough.”

Well, you have two options:

  1. Keep going.
  2. Stop doing it.

Keep going sounds like the right answer. But it may not be for you. (You may have become a different person since starting.)

These three questions are helpful:

  1. Why are you doing this?
  2. What do you hope to gain?
  3. Have I done this 100 times yet?

If you analyze your reasons and decide “yes, I should keep going” …then I like to lean on these questions:

  1. Are you moving forward? (If not, why not?)
  2. Who can you talk to about this?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

To your success,

Danny

Jim Collins Tracking System

January 12, 2021 by Danny Miranda

Legendary author and researcher Jim Collins tracks two metrics daily:

  1. Rating of the day (from -2 to +2)
  2. The number of hours he spent doing something “creative”

Let’s analyze why both are important.

First, the rating. Everyone has good days. Everyone has bad days. But few people know when and why they have good and bad days. Sometimes there is a pattern.

Second, the creative hours. He sets a minimum for himself of 1,000 creative hours every 365 days. He can never fall below this threshold. What qualifies as “creative” time? Jim counts anything from getting the paintbrushes assembled to the actual art. It could be a conversation or it could be sitting at his keyboard to write.

This system is simple enough to be repeated.

My Current Visualization Practice

January 11, 2021 by Danny Miranda

What does my visualization practice look like?

Currently, there are five components:

  1. Mentality Folder. This is 10-15 sheets of paper (printed out!). I review these three times per day in a folder – morning, afternoon, and night. The categories are… Identity, Who Is Danny Miranda?, Personal Creed, Vision & Mission, Yearly Targets, Intentions, Standards, Affirmations, Cookie Jar. (To learn more about it, check out this post.)
  1. “I Love Myself.” At random points in the day, I’ll stop and simply say “I Love Myself” ten times. Recently, my trigger has been at the end of a shower. I also like to do this before bed. I imagine what it would feel like to hug myself.
  1. The Greatest Salesman In the World – 10 Scrolls. Matthew McConaughey recommended this. I’m currently on Scroll III. It’s a short 4-page document that I read every morning, afternoon, and night.
  1. Tweets and comments. These are printed out and posted on my bedroom wall. They are noteworthy because they made me feel something. Have around 35 currently hung up.
  1. Note card on bathroom mirror. This is handwritten. It is a Directive Affirmation Statement from With Winning In Mind by Lanny Bassham. It describes the type of person I am and the actions I do daily.

These have been added slowly over time. Now, they feel natural.

If the above looks overwhelming? Try one for three months with no expectation. See what happens.

Everyone Is Reachable

January 10, 2021 by Danny Miranda

It’s 2021. Everyone is reachable in the world.

I’ve heard two incredible stories in the past week.

First: A friend posted a screenshot on Instagram of him emailing Mark Cuban. He asked what the best BBQ place was in Dallas. Twice. Mark Cuban responded.

Second: Someone wanted to get in contact with their favorite YouTuber (over 1 million subscribers) to help with a project. So what’d they do? They emailed him. Seven times. The YouTuber responded.

The point is that no matter how famous, no matter how busy… everyone is reachable.

People check their email. They check their DMs.

So stop reading this…

And send someone you respect a message.

Internal Goals

January 9, 2021 by Danny Miranda

What’s the best way to start a new habit?

Internal goals.

That’s because when you’re doing something for the first time, it can be easy to look at how well everyone else is doing. Setting an internal goal narrows the competition to you vs. you.

What exactly is an internal goal?

It’s something you directly have control over.

For example, when I started going to the gym, if I could make it to the gym four times per week… that was a win. It wasn’t about how I looked or how much I could press. It was just, can I form the habit and be consistent with it?

If the answer is yes, you’ve won.

So if you’re looking to make progress… set an internal goal today.

A Champion Approaches Life As A Champion

January 8, 2021 by Danny Miranda

A champion isn’t just about winning a trophy.

A champion is about the mindset you carry to all things.

I was just watching Olympic Gold Medalist and four-time World Champion Jordan Burroughs on the Joe Rogan Experience (#1591).

He wasn’t just curious about wrestling (where he actually is a champion).

He was also figuring out ways to become a champion in…

  • Raising a child.
  • Marriage.
  • What he was going to do after wrestling.

And that’s when it hit me.

Becoming a champion isn’t about a sport.

Becoming a champion is about how you approach everything.
