We respect those who do the work.
Why do we respect David Goggins? Because it wasn’t enough for him to be a Navy SEAL. So, he ran ultramarathons, set the world record for pull ups, and uses his story to inspire.
Why do we respect Elon Musk? Because it wasn’t enough for him to make a fortune at PayPal. So, he decided instead of sitting on a beach in the Carribean for the rest of his life, to create Tesla and SpaceX.
But it’s not about fame or money.
Why do we respect the dedicated monk? Because he does the work of meditation.
Why do respect the kid who’s in his fourth month at the gym? Because he’s lifting the weights.
We respect those who do the work.
Let it be clear: we shouldn’t do the work to get others to respect us.
We should do the work to respect ourselves. The more you lean into the work, the more you respect yourself. Because the work is what separates you from living up to your highest version.
The work is always open to us. No matter if we’ve “made it” or we haven’t. And that’s the beauty of the game.
The more we respect the work, the more we respect ourselves.
